By the blood of the Lamb God's people are given salvation and comfort. We're rescued from hopelessness.
It's a shock when we're reminded that we're not as important as we imagine. When that happens, we act like a child who's too short to reach something, or too weak to lift something. We try and try to get what we want but it's no use. We’re lacking in something. We're not tall enough, or strong enough, or attractive enough, or articulate enough. We become hopeless because we're reminded by failure that we're not enough.
But, like a parent who sees his child humbled by failure, our heavenly Father sees our struggle and then grasps what we can't reach. He lifts what's impossible for us to carry. Then, we’re humbled by the Father's kindness rather than our failure. We're rescued from hopelessness by our Father’s faithfulness.
In the same way, the children of Israel were hopeless. The Egyptians didn't think much of their Hebrew slaves. For them, Israelites weren't good for anything except free labor. The children of Israel were so humbled by this experience in Egypt that they lost all hope. They were brought so low that everyone, accept a handful of midwives, forgot their God.
But, by the hand of God, they were rescued. They had all but forgotten their God, but their God never forgot them. He remembered His promises to His people. He set them free from bondage and filled the Israelites with hope. The Lord God led them out of fear and temptation. He lifted them up out of failure and hopelessness to walk again with Him in grace and forgiveness. God unchained His people. He set them free to enjoy all the good He had to give them.
When we're hopeless, when we can't stop ourselves from sinking any lower, our comfort and rescue come from the God who saved the children of Israel by His almighty hand.
He sets us free and hands us the same cup of salvation that's filled with the same blood of the Lamb that liberated Israel from slavery in Egypt. The same Lamb who sacrificed Himself on the cross to pay for all our sins.
Jesus gave His life on the cross as a blood sacrifice for all sin; past, present, and future. By the blood of the Lamb God's people are given salvation and comfort. We're rescued from hopelessness.
The blood of the Lamb sets us free to confess the truth, that:
"You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling;
I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I spoke: “I am greatly afflicted.”
I said in my alarm, “All mankind are liars.”
What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people." (Psalm 116:8-14)
