About Event

Here We Still Stand is an invitation to celebrate the gospel truths reclaimed in the Reformation and a call to incite a modern Reformation under the banner of the finished work of Christ. It is a three-day event packed with teaching, music, food, and fellowship all focused on the radical message of God's grace toward sinners. Come and join this assembly of sinner/saints standing in the freedom of the gospel.

The conference is held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego, California. All conference activities, meals, and hotel accommodations are in this one location. So get ready to eat, sing, learn and fellowship!

Sarah Crowder

Sarah Crowder is passionate about sharing the Gospel with freshmen students as a teacher at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, NV. Sarah graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2000, and recently completed a MA in Theology with a focus on Reformation Studies from Concordia University-Irvine in May, 2020. She has been married to her husband, Jason for nearly 20 years, and is the loving mother to Katie and Brendan.

Dan van Voorhis

Dan van Voorhis

Dan van Voorhis is an author, historian, professor, and speaker at 1517. After receiving his Ph.D. in History from the University of St. Andrews, Dr. van Voorhis spent 11 years teaching history and political thought at Concordia University, Irvine. He is now the 1517 Academy Dean. He also spends his time writing for 1517 and hosting/producing podcasts including the Soul of Christianity and the Christian History Almanac. Dan is married to Beth Anne, and they have two sons, Coert and Raymond.

Kelsi Klembara

Kelsi Klembara

Kelsi Klembara is the online content manager for 1517 and host of the 1517 podcast/show, Outside Ourselves. She holds an MA in Reformation Theology from Concordia University Irvine. She lives in Dallas, Texas, with her husband, Doug, and her three children.

Scott Keith

Scott Keith

Scott Keith is the Executive Director of 1517. He is a co-host of The Thinking Fellows Podcast and a contributor to 1517 and Christ Hold Fast. He is also the author of "Being Dad: Father as a Picture of God’s Grace." He earned his doctorate from Foundation House Oxford, under the sponsorship of the Graduate Theological Foundation, studying under Dr. James A. Nestingen.

Caleb Keith

Caleb Keith

Caleb Keith is a Summa Cum Laude, and Honors Scholar graduate of Concordia University Irvine, and holds an MA in systematic and philosophical theology from the University of Nottingham. In 2018, he published a translation of Luther's Heidelberg Disputation. Caleb is husband to Erika Keith and father to Esther, Emerson, Edmund, and Euna. He produces the Thinking Fellows and Outlaw God podcasts and oversees the 1517 Podcast network.

Rod Rosenbladt

Rod Rosenbladt

Dr. Rod Rosenbladt (Ph.D., University of Strasbourg), now retired, was a professor of theology at Concordia University in Irvine, California for over 30 years, and has contributed to numerous books and recorded presentations. He is also an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Magnus Persson

Magnus is a husband, father and grandfather. He is an ordained Verbi Divini Minister and works as a pastor for EFS - a missional renewal movement in the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is also the network co-ordinator of Re:formera and the host for its weekly podcast.

Loso

Juan Carlos Bedoya a.k.a. Loso, was born in Queens New York. Years later he was introduced to a group of friends who were involved in a Christian rap ministry called H.G.A. (His Glory Alone). Bible studies, evangelizing and Fellowship made up the majority of the ministry’s goals, and it is also in this ministry that his passion for preaching developed. In 2009 he began attending Trinity College of Florida where he is currently pursuing a pastoral degree.

The Reverend Jacob Smith is the Rector of Calvary - St. George. Jake was born on the Navajo Reservation and was raised in Yuma, Arizona. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 2000 with a BA in History, with an emphasis in Near Eastern Studies. He received his M. Div from Trinity Episcopal in May, 2006. Jacob was ordained to the diaconate on June 3, 2006 in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, and ordained a presbyter at Calvary Church on December 3, 2006.

Delywn X. Campbell is a Lutheran pastor serving Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI. Del has served as a strategic mission developer for many years for the LCMS.  Del lives in Lansing with his wife Lenita and their two daughters.

David Zahl

David Zahl

David Zahl is the founder and director of Mockingbird Ministries, editor-in-chief of the popular Mockingbird website, and cohost of The Mockingcast. He and his family live in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. Zahl is the author of A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N' Roll and coauthor of Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints).

Michael Berg is an assistant professor of theology at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, WI. He is married to Amanda and together they have three daughters: Abigail, Noelle, and Sophia. Michael is a graduate of Martin Luther College, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, the International Academy of Apologetics, Human Rights, and Evangelism, and Biola University.

Blake Flattley is an accomplished singer-songwriter and the head of 1517 Music. He holds a BA in Humanities and an MA in Theology from Concordia University, Irvine and has served as a Worship Director for churches in Southern California, Houston, New York City and the Phoenix area. Blake currently lives with his wife Tara and their three girls, Amelia, Olivia, and Willa in Southern California.

Gretchen Ronnevik

Gretchen Ronnevik

Gretchen loves writing about rich theology rooted in real life. She is a mom to six kids that range in age from preschooler to teenager. She works as a homeschool mom, writer, and speaker. She’s the author of Ragged: Spiritual Disciplines for the Spiritually Exhausted. She is also the co-host of the weekly podcast, "Freely Given." She enjoys knitting, reading many books at the same time, and embarrassing her teenagers in public. She and her husband, Knut, live in Minnesota on the family farm.

Jim Nestingen

Jim Nestingen is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and holds both a master of divinity and master of theology degree from Luther Seminary. He received his doctorate in theology from St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. Nestingen has written and spoken prolifically on Luther's catechisms and confessional Lutheran theology.

Ken Sundet Jones

Ken Sundet Jones, Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, loves teaching undergrads. He was born in Heidelberg, which must be why he likes Luther so much. He was shaped by the Sturgis motorcycle rally in his hometown and by summers at his grandparents’ cattle ranch. His doctoral dissertation covered 16th-century German evangelical funeral preaching. And he knows how to do knitting and Scandinavian flat-plane woodcarving.

Donavon Riley is a Lutheran pastor, conference speaker, author, and contributing writer for 1517. He is the author of the books Crucifying Religion and The Withertongue Emails. He is also the co-host of the Banned Books podcast.

Bob Hiller is the senior pastor of Community Lutheran Church in Escondido, CA. He is a baptized husband, father, and pastor. He is the content editor for The Craft of Preaching, a preacher on You Are Forgiven Radio, and a contributor to 1517. He is also a co-host on White Horse Inn.

Paul Koch is the pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Ventura CA. where he has been called to hand over the goods; to kill and make alive and to recklessly forgive the broken and hurting.

Chad Bird

Chad Bird

Chad Bird is a Scholar in Residence at 1517. He has served as a pastor, professor, and guest lecturer in Old Testament and Hebrew. He holds master’s degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College. He has contributed articles to Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Modern Reformation, The Federalist, Lutheran Forum, and other journals and websites. He is also the author of several books, including The Christ Key & Limping with God.

John T. Pless

John T. Pless

John T. Pless (D. Litt, Concordia University, Chicago) is Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry and Missions and Director of Field Education at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Steven Paulson

Steven Paulson

Professor Steven Paulson is a Senior Fellow in Residence at 1517. He holds degrees in theology from St. Olaf College, Luther Seminary and has a Doctorate from the Lutheran School of Theology in  Chicago.  He has taught at Concordia College, Moorhead, Luther Seminary, St. Paul, and Luther House of Study of Sioux Falls.  He is the author of many articles and books, including three volumes of Luther's Outlaw God that launched his podcast "Outlaw God." He has added a new podcast for preaching from the lectionary called "Preaching the Text."

Daniel Emery Price

Daniel Emery Price is the 1517 Operations Executive. He is also an author, church and conference speaker, and co-host of the podcasts 40 Minutes in the Old Testament and 30 Minutes in the New Testament. Daniel has served as a church planter, pastor and worship leader and currently lives in Northwest Arkansas, with his wife and two daughters.

Erick Sorensen

Erick Sorensen

Erick Sorensen is in charge of Church Partnerships in the Development Department at 1517.  His B.S. in Organizational Leadership is from Biola University, and his M.Div. is from Lutheran Brethren Seminary. Erick has served as a pastor in Fontana, California, Staten Island, New York and Roxbury, New Jersey. In 2015 he planted Epiphany Lutheran Church in New York City, New York. Erick is host of the  Law & Gospel Devotional, co-host of the 30 Minutes in the New Testament and Field Guide to the Bible podcasts, and is co-author of Scandalous Stories: A Sort of Commentary on the Parables.
