About Event

Chad is back for a second year at Ocean Grove Camp. He is the featured Bible hour speaker for the week of August 1 - 6. He'll be unpacking the topic of Limping with God: Jacob and the Old Testament Guide to Messy Discipleship:

Jacob was a backstabbing brother, dad of a dysfunctional family, and would certainly never have won Husband of the Year (to any of his four [!] wives). Yet, this was the man beloved of God, chosen to be the father of the Old Testament community of believers, and a follower of the Lord. This sinner-saint may not seem like the model disciple, but his failures and foibles are a mirror of our own lives. Like Jacob, we limp with God, upheld by his mercy.

Chad Bird

Chad Bird is a Scholar in Residence at 1517, where he brings his deep knowledge of Scripture and theology to readers, listeners, and audiences around the world. He holds master’s degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College. A prolific author, Chad has written numerous books, including Night Driving, The Christ Key, Unveiling Mercy, Hitchhiking with Prophets, and, most recently, Untamed Prayers (1517 Publishing). He is also the co-host of the popular podcast 40 Minutes in the Old Testament. A highly sought-after speaker and teacher, Chad combines theological insight with a servant’s heart. A Texan and avid runner, he and his wife, Stacy, enjoy traveling together and spending time with their grandchildren.
