Here We Still Stand is an invitation to celebrate the gospel truths reclaimed in the Reformation and a call to incite a modern Reformation under the banner of the finished work of Christ. It is a three day event packed with teaching, music, food and fellowship all focused on the radical message of God's grace toward sinners. Come and join this assembly of sinner/saints standing in the freedom of the gospel.
The conference is held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina in San Diego, California. All conference activities, meals, and hotel accommodations are in this one location. So get ready to eat, sing, learn and fellowship!
Dan van Voorhis is an author, historian, professor, and speaker at 1517. After receiving his Ph.D. in History from the University of St. Andrews, Dr. van Voorhis spent 11 years teaching history and political thought at Concordia University, Irvine. He is a Scholar-in-Residence at 1517 and the host of the daily podcast The Christian History Almanac. Dan is married to Beth Anne, and they have two sons, Coert and Raymond.
Scott Keith is the Executive Director of 1517. He is a co-host of The Thinking Fellows Podcast and a contributor to 1517 and Christ Hold Fast. He is also the author of "Being Dad: Father as a Picture of God’s Grace." He earned his doctorate from Foundation House Oxford, under the sponsorship of the Graduate Theological Foundation, studying under Dr. James A. Nestingen.
Juan Carlos Bedoya a.k.a. Loso, was born in Queens New York. Years later he was introduced to a group of friends who were involved in a Christian rap ministry called H.G.A. (His Glory Alone). Bible studies, evangelizing and Fellowship made up the majority of the ministry’s goals, and it is also in this ministry that his passion for preaching developed. In 2009 he began attending Trinity College of Florida where he is currently pursuing a pastoral degree.
Delywn X. Campbell is a Lutheran pastor serving Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI. Del has served as a strategic mission developer for many years for the LCMS. Del lives in Lansing with his wife Lenita and their two daughters.
David Zahl is the founder and director of Mockingbird Ministries, editor-in-chief of the popular Mockingbird website, and cohost of The Mockingcast. He and his family live in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. Zahl is the author of A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N' Roll and coauthor of Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints).
Jared C. Wilson is the director of content strategy at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, managing editor of For the Church, and director of the Pastoral Training Center at Liberty Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He speaks at churches and conferences around the world. He is a prolific author whose books include Your Jesus Is Too Safe, Gospel Wakefulness and The Imperfect Disciple.
Elyse Fitzpatrick holds a certificate in biblical counseling from CCEF (San Diego) and an M.A. in Biblical Counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary. She has authored 21 books on daily living and the Christian life. A frequent speaker at women’s conferences, she has been married for nearly 40 years and has three adult children and six really adorable grandchildren.
Jessica Thompson is the author of several books and is a frequent conference speaker. Her heart is to see women, families, and children freed from the bondage of moralism. She is a contributor at Christ Hold Fast and a part of the podcast, Front Porch with the Fitzes. Jess has a Bachelor's Degree in Theology and with her mother, Elyse Fitzpatrick, she co-authored the books, "Give Them Grace," "Answering Your Kids' Toughest Questions," and "Mom, Dad… What’s Sex?"
Jim Nestingen is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and holds both a master of divinity and master of theology degree from Luther Seminary. He received his doctorate in theology from St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. Nestingen has written and spoken prolifically on Luther's catechisms and confessional Lutheran theology.
Valerie Locklair Thur is a Fellow of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism, and Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, where she also earned the Diploma of Christian Apologetics. She is the author of "Called to Defend: An Apologetics Handbook" and a contributing writer and speaker for 1517. Her areas of interest include apologetics for the next generation and connecting the defense of the faith to different branches of knowledge.
Cindy Koch lives in Ventura, CA with her family. She graduated from Concordia Irvine, earned an MA in exegetical theology, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Bible from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. She has authored several books and is a blog contributor on 1517.org. Cindy speaks at retreats and conferences around the country. She also hosts Family Style Theology Podcast featuring conversations with children about theological topics.
Donavon Riley is a husband, father, pastor, hosts The Banned Books and Warrior Priest podcasts, has authored three books, written hundreds of articles, is a mixed martial arts instructor, a story-teller, and friend of trees.
Chad Bird is a Scholar in Residence at 1517. He has served as a pastor, professor, and guest lecturer in Old Testament and Hebrew. He holds master's degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College. He has contributed articles to Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Modern Reformation, The Federalist, Lutheran Forum, and other journals and websites. He is also the author of several books, including The Christ Key & Limping with God.
Senior fellow at 1517.org, featuring two weekly podcasts Outlaw God and Preaching the Text. Former pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Washington Island, WI. Professor of Systematic Theology at Concordia College, Moorhead MN, Luther Seminary, St. Paul MN, and Luther House of Study. Writer of many books and articles, including Luther's Outlaw God, Lutheran Theology, Luther for Armchair Theologians.
Daniel Emery Price is the 1517 Operations Executive. He is also an author, church and conference speaker, and co-host of the podcasts 40 Minutes in the Old Testament and 30 Minutes in the New Testament. Daniel has served as a church planter, pastor and worship leader and currently lives in Northwest Arkansas, with his wife and two daughters.
