1 and 2 Peter (11)
  1. The future has come, and the future comes in the resurrected Christ who is present with His real voice and His real Presence in His holy Word and blessed Sacraments.
  2. This is the patient love of God. He is stubborn about the salvation of sinners. He will not be rushed even if his name is mocked, and the trustworthiness of his promises are called into question.
  3. He will do it because God is the truth, and always deals with and in the truth.
  4. He begins the letter with grace and peace (2 Pet 2:1) - gifts that had been given them by God through the righteousness of his Son, Jesus Christ, their Lord, and Master.
  5. This letter is not without controversy—not because of its content but due to questions concerning its authorship and canonicity.
  6. You are in a fight, but the victory is guaranteed because it is in the hands of the risen Chief Shepherd.
  7. In the suffering of Jesus, we have an example of trusting in the promises of the Father.
  8. When we read this chapter, we find that we are actually shaped by the word.
  9. He calls us to suffer as Christ suffered. That is, we are to suffer in service to our neighbor even if they caused the injustice.
  10. After the glory of our flesh has gone the way of wilted grass and faded flowers, and we’ve long forgotten all our efforts at self-justification, the word of the Lord remains.
  11. The focus of 1 Peter on baptism is one that has puzzled many people.
