Advent (13)
  1. This Advent, waiting gives birth to God’s Christmas love.
  2. In the season of Advent, we speak of a present-day hope that we have in God through the work of the Holy Spirit to create and sustain faith in us through the Word and Sacraments.
  3. God Himself has shown us how He will prepare us for the day of His coming. He will refine us and purify us through Christ.
  4. In Jeremiah you cannot have comfort and consolation without a clear understanding of judgement.
  5. The main teaching for our text is: Salvation is something God clothes us with and not something we manufacture.
  6. The message we proclaim will and must always be that Jesus died and rose again. This is the full good news we need.
  7. Verses like this, when kept in the Law, keep the Bible a closed book of condemnation. Without Christ to unlock the scriptures and to open up the Gospel for us, we cannot be saved.
  8. A sign was given to Ahaz to point him toward the greater sign given in a manger and that Bethlehem’s Messiah is the sign we look forward to seeing in the sky when Jesus, our Emmanuel, comes again.
  9. No one comes to God except through Christ who took the jagged road of Calvary for you and me and opened-up the way previously blocked by death through His glorious resurrection.
  10. Christ the King’s return will show us what we can only imagine. He will be a king and His a kingdom will be unlike any we have known.
  11. The Church stands firm on the word of promise that Christ will one day return to change what we know by faith into sight.
