Advent (331)
  1. While we do not have an answer, we do have a promise. A promise given to us by a God whose one and only Son was himself slaughtered by those terrified of losing their power.
  2. Preach the full council of God even as it focuses on the Virgin Mary who was the virginal handmaid of the Lord and through whom Immanuel, “God with us,” happens.
  3. Unlike Luke, who provides most of the parts for the children’s program (the shepherds, the angel hosts, the innkeeper, and the animals), Matthew’s version is rated “M” for mature.
  4. The reality of the Incarnation and the accomplishments of the Incarnate God-man, Jesus the Son, are even more astonishing because His story brings to a climax the long-storied history of Israel, with all her divinely-inspired and prophetic Scriptures.
  5. “God with Us”...is a common theme throughout Scripture: No one else has a God like ours, who is truly with His people.
  6. The following is an excerpt from “A Year of Grace: Collected Sermons of Advent through Pentecost” written by Bo Giertz and translated by Bror Erickson (1517 Publishing, 2019).
  7. While we are promised that God will always be with us, we are also told of the benefits that can come to us even in our pain.
  8. All creation joins together to repeat the sounding joy.
  9. Most days, we're not okay. We're not good enough, strong enough, or "Christian" enough.
  10. In the wilderness, God reaches down to show us that the only life is in one place: where there is water.
