Church Seasons (11)
  1. The Trinity is a handy shorthand for all that God has done to justify sinners.
  2. That on Pentecost God’s Spirit should function through a dozen seeming inebriates should be no surprise when this same God saves through the ignominy of the cross.
  3. The shepherds are the most unlikely people to play the role the angels cast them in.
  4. If Jesus is indeed the same yesterday, today, and forever, everything his enfleshment brings is already assured: life, salvation, and forgiveness.
  5. Repentance comes on account of suffering, loss, failure, and death. It happens when the promise of forgiveness of sin given in Jesus’ death is proclaimed to us down-and-outers.
  6. God's Word is the final word on you, and his claim on you as his people, his children, is the ultimate claim.
  7. The gospel promise is that God in Christ knows exactly what your temptations are and still bids you find protection from them in him.
  8. When we hear freedom, we have to ask about its opposite, bondage.
  9. And when He says, “It is finished,” He doesn’t just mean His life and ministry. He means you, your sin, your brokenness, and ultimately your death.
  10. All the piety, rigor, and discipline presented to the world by the believers, the General knew, was done out of fear and the denial of God’s grace
  11. We are awfully close to the tipping point where Thanksgiving falls completely into the clutches of the advertising world. Where the holiday is treated as just another excuse to get you to buy more stuff and accumulate more goods.
