Church Seasons (1081)
  1. Repentance comes on account of suffering, loss, failure, and death. It happens when the promise of forgiveness of sin given in Jesus’ death is proclaimed to us down-and-outers.
  2. Get behind me bourgie theology! Pick up your cross and turn on your radio to Ringside Preachers. Talking about Rush Limbaugh’s legacy, shaking hands like a man and not a fish, and you-know-who: Jesus.
  3. Make no mistake, the life to which Jesus is calling His disciples is radically other than what our world preaches.
  4. We were enemies, but because of the self-sacrificing love of Christ, we are made friends, indeed, even the adopted children of our Heavenly Father.
  5. The Church has traditionally understood Baptism as a naming Sacrament. It reminds us of our new baptismal identity.
  6. We cannot scan any random passage of Scripture and automatically assume the words are unconditionally addressed to us. Often, very often, they are not.
  7. Repent and believe the Good News! Everything is OK.
  8. Ash Wednesday, is meant to remind us we have a death problem. All living things made from the soil shall return to it.
  9. The season of Lent gives almost unparalleled opportunity for preachers to placard before their auditors the Cross of Christ and beckon Christians to take up their cross and follow Him.
  10. This forty-day season of preparation for Easter is an opportunity for the people of God to rededicate themselves to hearing and responding to Jesus’ call to repent.
  11. While God may and does test one’s faith and life, yet He does not tempt with sin.
  12. The amount of Messianic/Christological connections in this account is stunning. This is an excellent Old Testament text with which to begin Lent!
