Confession and Absolution (127)
  1. Advent is not a call to prepare to engage in a transaction with God.
  2. Christ urges us to love our neighbor as He loved us, forgiving all of their sins - giving them the absolving, shirt-pulling, embrace that we would also want.
  3. Jesus does not seek out Peter to condemn, but to restore his precious lost sheep, His dearly loved prodigal son.
  4. Sometimes the guilt in us manifests itself in different ways. Whether it's a weight or sadness, anger or venting, blame or defensiveness, we see it in ourselves and we see it in our relationships.
  5. It’s easy to slip into thinking about forgiveness solely in terms of our authority over it.
  6. Because Jesus sacrificed Himself for us sinners, God calls us to open the door of our junk rooms and receive His forgiveness.
  7. Character development? Change? Saying that it’s behind you? Yeah right. You’re just saying that because you want your nice polished image back. You haven’t changed. We know. We’ve got the receipts.
  8. How big can you build your cross? Or maybe that's not what Jesus wants from his followers. I guess you should listen to find out...
  9. Jesus continues to breathe His gifts on His beloved. He continues to breathe absolution upon sinners like me and you, He continues to fill us with the Holy Spirit and all His comfort.
  10. The power of music: a natural expression of the children of God! Repent and believe the good news.
  11. Both Hus and Luther arrived at the same conclusion: neither councils nor the pope had final authority in the church. Headship in the church belongs solely to Christ.
  12. As we stand before our Lord dead in our transgressions and guilt, Jesus pronounces His judgment upon us. He absolves us.
