Creeds and Confessions (45)
  1. Apart from the confession that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ of God who suffered and died for the forgiveness of sins and rose again to justify the ungodly, there is no Christian faith.
  2. We are called to believe in the church even when we don’t believe in the church.
  3. The liturgy ensures that the gospel is never something inward, merely a thought or sentiment of the believer.
  4. The story being told in the film is not Bonhoeffer’s story. It’s not the Confession Church’s story. Nor is it the story of the German resistance against Hitler. It is a completely fictional story of Hollywood.
  5. Dr. Montgomery spent his life—even into his final year at the age of 92—contending for the whole Christian faith once and for all delivered to the saints.
  6. This is the second installment in our series entitled, God and Nature, which explores the relationship between our Creator and nature: how God uses nature, how we are meant to view nature, and how God chooses to reveal (or hide) himself in nature.
  7. Surely a division now called the "Great Schism" should command our attention, but it is vital that we do not impute similar significance to all modern disagreements in the church.
  8. Anyone could tell he enjoyed teaching theology and loved his students.
  9. Walther’s living legacy is his enduring teaching on how to distinguish the law and the gospel in the Church’s proclamation.
  10. Even if the numbers are bad, the news about Jesus crucified for sinners and raised to new life hasn’t become any less good.
  11. All of Scripture, every last syllable of it, is meant to drive us to "consider Jesus," the One who comes to "make us right" by gifting us his righteousness.
  12. Preachers and church workers must also hear the gospel preached to them.
