Easter Sunday (50)
  1. These others do not get much attention. We do not know their names. We do not know their back stories. But they were there on Easter morning, and Luke wants his readers to know it.
  2. The story is not over, however, when they put Jesus in the tomb. The sacrifice is complete, and Jesus is still active.
  3. Through His death and resurrection Jesus will create a new community of mini-suffering servants founded on the righteousness that the Suffering Servant won for them.
  4. Reluctant as they undoubtedly were, the soldiers were the first witnesses who spread word that Jesus, who had been crucified, dead, and buried, was now alive and on the move.
  5. Defy the world with its “oughts” and “shoulds,” for in Christ, it is finished.
  6. This Easter season will be a journey that leads us from fear, through faith, to freedom.
  7. There is absence in that all we have is an empty tomb, but presence because, while the tomb is empty, Christ is alive with a gloriously transformed body and with us!
  8. Rather than trying to tie up all the uncertainties and challenges your hearers are facing into a neat little bow, you acknowledge the difficulties they face...even after the resurrection.
