Holidays (74)
  1. As we close out an old year, Saint Silvester can remind us God is the Lord of history and He has used and is using even people whose lives sink largely or totally into obscurity to keep the confession of our faith in Jesus Christ alive.
  2. The absolute best part of Christmas is that it is not flat at all, but in fact, it is very tall.
  3. In a year where things are unclear, tensions are heartbreaking, and uncertainty is rampant, what can we be thankful for?
  4. We are given, so we give thanks, and we give thanks by giving.
  5. God’s love does not have an off switch. You cannot earn it or deserve it. And your thankfulness for it will not determine if you get it or not.
  6. Because everything we possess, and everything in heaven and on earth besides, is daily given, sustained, and protected by God, it inevitably follows that we are in duty bound to love, praise, and thank him without ceasing
  7. Trusting Jesus, worshipping our Christ, and praising him, we have the blessing of God so that we can give thanks with a grateful heart for everything he gives to us today and always.
  8. Like Luther and like Hannah, we also receive God’s promise.
  9. Eating a whole turkey by yourself? May we join? Hit play, grab a leg, dip in cranberry, and enjoy what some people call the greatest meeting of minds since Shane MacGowan got together with Nick Cave to record My Way!
  10. This earth is not the place where your promise is to be found. Rejoice because the kingdom of God comes to you!
  11. Our forefathers dedicated Holy Cross Day to jolt the Church into remembrance that Christianity is not principally about ethics.
  12. When you don’t know whom to thank, you start thanking yourself. Praise turns inward. This is a double bondage. When you have only yourself to thank, you end up having only yourself to depend upon.
