Holy Spirit (59)
  1. Only by faith in Christ are we truly awake.
  2. Erasmus sought to find meaning behind the words of Scripture in order to make an ultimate claim. Luther, on the other hand, found the Gospel to be meaningless outside of Christ and his Cross.
  3. It’s God’s love that sets us free to love in the first place.
  4. Our ears are opened by the Spirit through the word. Then, faith in Christ is present in us.
  5. To a world enslaved to time (because it has no future), the Church's disregard for clocks and calendars is ridiculous.
  6. How we define holiness will affect our approach to God.
  7. The unbeliever will search for relief from temptations in worldly prescriptions and pleasures. The believer searches for answers in the promises of the One who can bring true lasting peace in mind, body, and soul.
  8. If our churches are split along generational lines it's because we've turned our backs to the cross. We've shut our ears to the Good News about Jesus Christ, who judges the world with equity.
  9. We're not called to be obedient consumers. We're free in Christ to love and serve our neighbor according to his need
  10. We already know how the war will conclude. Jesus wins.
  11. Justice and love are united in God, and we see this most clearly in Jesus on the cross. There, both God's hatred toward sin and compassion for the world come together.
  12. When we try to create meaning for our lives or transform Jesus into a mere example, the Holy Spirit comes to us, with a preacher in hand, ready to unleash a sermon like Louis Armstrong blasting out "When The Saints Go Marching In" on his trumpet.
