Hurt and Shame (19)
  1. For the less we tell these stories of sin, the more it seems we are ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of bad people.
  2. Wouldn’t it be great if there were something that could de-shame us?
  3. Being thrown in the pit was but one of the many smoking guns that the prosecutor could bring forth as evidence.
  4. Every year, when this day rolls around, I turn over the stones of remembrance that litter my mind, to see what lurks beneath.
  5. For it is His law I have broken, His office in which I have failed, His people against whom I have sinned. All is from Him, so all I have taken, I have taken from Him. All others against whom I have sinned, I have sinned because they are of Him.
  6. The thing is, not only is fixing our past impossible; who’s to say we wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes? In fact, who’s to say we wouldn’t make matters even worse?
  7. On that day the mourners were shocked to discover that behind the veneer of her bright smile lurked a fathomless darkness, whose depths she made manifest only when she despaired of life in this world.
