  1. God puts some interesting laws in place regarding the first year of marriage, loaning money, kidnapping, and skin conditions.
  2. In this religious Sodom, we had a Jesus with the heart of Moses whose gospel was a new and improved law.
  3. Pastors are built from the same stuff as everyone else. That’s good, and that’s bad.
  4. I finally climbed all 109 mountains. My journey began out of desperation, fueled by anger, fear, resentment.
  5. Just as we believe ourselves to be forgiven because God sees us in Christ, so to forgive others is to see them as God sees them in Christ. To forgive, in other words, is to put God’s eyes in our eyes and our eyes in God’s eyes.
  6. If I were granted three wishes, one of them would not be to know what the future holds.
  7. We tell our children if they work hard and play by the rules, they’ll succeed in life. Jerks, cheaters, and thieves won’t. They’ll end up in the gutter. Or jail. Or worse.
  8. What do Habakkuk and Israel have? Nothing but the word of God. Nothing but the promise of God. Nothing but God himself. They have the vision that Yahweh gives, the words of hope he utters. And that, amazingly, is enough.
  9. The Christian sees himself or herself as one just as guilty as the rest of the world. But we see ourselves not just as what’s wrong with the world, but in the One by whom the world has been redeemed.
  10. Jesus cuts right to the chase when it comes to the evil one. He calls the devil “a liar and the father of lies,”
  11. If I were the devil, I wouldn’t just entice believers to do bad things. We’re experts at that anyway.
