  1. Rightly distinguishing between law and gospel, as Paul helps us see in 2 Corinthians 3, is, quite literally, a matter of life and death.
  2. The legal record of debt for our sin was canceled because Jesus satisfied the legal demands for us by his life, death, and resurrection.
  3. Our God is the one who brings back the exile, who restores the outcast, he is the one who devises means to do so.
  4. When we own up to our sin, our Father is not scandalized, and his response is not to reconsider his calling us.
  5. When we stop looking to Christ in faith, we are walking in sin. Anything (including our supposed law-keeping) that does not proceed from faith is sin.
  6. Jesus knows you and everybody else come from a long line of life wasters going all the way back to Adam. Jesus died for life wasters! Let go of your bootstraps. Stand back up. Your Father loves you.
