Reading Through 1 John (14)
  1. From the beginning to the end of his letter, John really wants one thing: for us to be in Jesus.
  2. Through water, blood, and word, the Spirit never stops pointing us to Christ, and even more, giving us Christ.
  3. The reason that God’s commandments are not burdensome is that Jesus has fulfilled them.
  4. The love mentioned in 1 John 4:15-21 fourteen times (!) is a love that needs no apology but is determined at all times to sacrifice for the other.
  5. To say that whoever loves has been born of God is also to say that those who are born of God are recipients of love. They do not have God because they love but because they are loved.
  6. Do you confess Christ as God in the flesh, born, died, and raised to new life for you? Any answer of yes will do
  7. Jesus is the anti-Cain: a giver, not a taker.
  8. Hope is found precisely while we’re dead.
  9. When God makes promises, he is incapable of not keeping them.
  10. The smallest amount of Holy Spirit-created faith defeats every antichrist belief we hold.
  11. There is no true “self” apart from God. Anything so surmised is caught up in the meaninglessness that is death.
  12. Walking in the light doesn't entail a spotless moral record but rather an honest appraisal of who we are.
