  1. John’s message doesn’t inspire religious leaders to repent. Instead, John’s message provokes them to resentment and rage.
  2. In the beginning, we read about the invention of religion. It begins simply enough in Genesis 3
  3. The devil isn’t a popular subject nowadays. The argument is made that we’ve progressed as a culture.
  4. Jesus’ forgiveness will not collapse. Jesus’ forgiveness will take us places our legs can’t take us.
  5. Would you go to the church on the corner knowing that the pastor is an ex-con?
  6. Our complaints about God's grace always sound the same: "It was good to see him in church with his son this morning.
  7. Why confess sin? Is it so we can get rewarded by God? A little extra grace or material good for our troubles, maybe.
  8. The author, Flannery O'Connor, said, "All I can say about my love of God is, Lord help me in my lack of it."
  9. It's easy to become habituated to sin. It comes naturally, after all. The power and pressure of sin on us, from conception to the grave, is immense.
  10. Without the “simul” distinction, theology lapses into moralism.
  11. If we get past Sunday School moralizing what do we discover in the Old Testament?
  12. Some have built an entire theology on the false assumption that when God commands us to obey or believe, we have the ability to obey or believe.
