Suffering (202)
  1. I had been taught and believed in a God who is love, but as I walked outside that night I did not see him. I saw the stars and I felt their indifference.
  2. Rather than validate our selfish, self-serving choices, he justifies us by giving us new life and baptizing us into his death and resurrection.
  3. Daniel and Erick start Paul’s letter to the Philippians in this episode. To live is Christ, to die is gain, and some suffering is a gift.
  4. Jesus doesn’t talk about God’s love for us; he embodies it.
  5. Sometimes life is hard and seems unbearable. How could someone actually rejoice in suffering?    The Apostle Paul writes to us in Romans 5:3 "...we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Join Craig and Troy as they talk about suffering and character.
  6. Pain is our birthright, but Jesus’ resurrection is our irrevocable end.
  7. Daniel and Erick wrap up the 1 Peter in this episode. There is some discussion about ecclesiology and why Peter calls himself an elder.
  8. Did the suffering stop? No. It actually got worse. The commands of what exercise to do next sped up and intensified for both of us. The Guide was allowing himself to be smoked with me.
  9. Peter gives some examples of how to keep our conduct “honorable” before other people.
  10. Seasons of prolonged suffering have a way of beating your spirit down into the dust. Relational suffering. Physical suffering. Emotional suffering. Financial suffering.
  11. For many, “Yesterday" by The Beatles is a poignant and powerful song. It is one of, if not the most, covered songs by the Beatles.
  12. Have you ever read the Old Testament book of Lamentations? It’s not one of those Bible books that tend to make it too often onto devotional lists, sermon schedules or motivational posters.
