  1. In the tiny Bible-belt town where I grew up, tragedy brought people together.
  2. Life is certainly unfair. But in Christ, at least in part, we rejoice at such a notion. Grace, that great descriptor of God’s devotion, is a word that only finds its purpose, only exists at all, because it exists as a response to guilt.
  3. There are a few occasions in the Bible where the curtain lifts, and we get to peer into the inner workings of the Divine Court.
  4. From the untouchable living on the streets of India to the millionaire in Manhattan; from the farmer in Germany to the escort in Vegas; from the missionary in Argentina to the bartender in Ireland—they are all in the love zone of the Lord. Every. Single. One.
  5. As a woman who has suffered years of abuse, there have been times in my new life when I have found myself living out Psalm 6:6.
  6. Jesus, Who is truly God, became a regular Joe (or Joshua as the case may be) for us.
  7. Only a god could be wise. We are seekers, lovers of divine wisdom, but it is forever beyond our grasp due to human limitation.
  8. We are all sojourners in a perilous cosmos, what is sometimes conceptualized as the theology of the pilgrim.
  9. Satan cannot stand the Gospel, and so he goes to work to undermine and render God’s Word an impotent and absurd message.
  10. I spend a lot of time talking to people in coffee shops. Some share my Christian faith, some are exploring and questioning faith and others have left the church, having had a crisis of faith.
  11. During my recent trip to visit my daughter and her family, my son-in-law got me hooked on Leah Remini’s A&E show, Scientology and the Aftermath.
  12. Inside our heads is a courtroom where our whole lives are put on trial. And we are declared guilty of things. Big things, little things. God things, human things. True things, false things. We never can measure up.
