The Law (131)
  1. In Martin Luther's Small Catechism he borrows a line from St. Augustine about what defines a "god."
  2. Some have built an entire theology on the false assumption that when God commands us to obey or believe, we have the ability to obey or believe.
  3. The Law must attack because nothing outside of Christ can enter Heaven—nothing!
  4. As Christmas approaches, the Fellows take on a long time listener request to define our terms.
  5. “Putting hope in the cross of Christ means putting hope outside of anything – mentally, physically or even spiritually – you do.”
  6. What happens when our children are taught to read the Scriptures as evidence that God is a heavenly Santa Claus? When happens when they think God rewards or punishes them depending on whether they've been naughty or nice?
  7. Jesus’ life and work is now ours through faith.
  8. The Law though it does many things—restrains, exhorts the Christian unto righteousness, punishes—always rightly accuses and condemns sinners of their sin before a righteous, holy, and just God.
  9. The Fellows hand over the reigns to Dr. Franscico to teach us about Hugo Grotius.
  10. Likewise, when God says, "Do this and you will live," we go about under the illusion that we have the ability to accomplish what God demands of us.
  11. It's difficult enough for us to bear anothers' burdens, but carry another person's sin for him? Why would we do that?
  12. Daniel and Erick spend this episode discussing the Law of God, what Jesus says about it and what His relationship to it is. Jesus is cranking the Law up but it's all to drive us to Himself.
