Epiphany (206)
  1. What more could God do to prove to us that he is for us and not against us than to give his own Son into this fallen world to take the cross in our place, exchanging his righteousness for our many sins.
  2. John has been preaching a radical vision of God, where God holds people accountable for their sin and calls them to repent. What will Jesus do?
  3. In Scripture, to be "in Christ" is nothing but living in the light and reality of one’s baptism.
  4. Christ has come to make all things new, and water and the Spirit are used for His new creation just as it was for the original.
  5. God says, “Cross,” and we say, “Glory!” Sometimes – a lot of times – he knocks the glory glasses off our faces.
  6. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus establishes a whole new standard for what it means to live as one of His people.
  7. It is time to move on from the basics, says the Apostle. It is time to sink your teeth into some theological meat and understand He is working in those baptized into Christ.
  8. Obviously, the choice is very black and white: good or evil; life or death; blessings or curses...Unfortunately, the actions of the people will speak louder than their words.
  9. The followers of Jesus have a function to perform. When they do not perform it—that is, when they are not being themselves—the world suffers.
  10. Paul says Christian faith means confessing Jesus is Lord, beginning at the Cross, and owning the historical fact that God raised Him from the dead.
  11. There are good, God-pleasing reasons to attend a Divine Service, but worship attendance can also be an action by which we try to earn or deserve the favor and love of God. This is an ongoing struggle in every worshiping community.
  12. Our first mistake in thinking about the blessed life is we expect to experience it fully in this life.
