Epiphany (203)
  1. Epiphany is one of the most important festivals of the church year, although often sadly overlooked.
  2. On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson take up the story of the wedding feast at Cana.
  3. We now are the magi: we worship Christ because of who he is, but also because of what he has done for us and what he continues to do in his gift-giving to us.
  4. Epiphany continues the work done at Christmas, bringing light and life to a dying world desperate for hope.
  5. The “Chalking of the Door” is a way to celebrate and literally mark the occasion of the Epiphany and God’s blessing of our lives and home.
  6. Preach the whole story, the whole macro narrative through the themes of Epiphany: light, illumination, baptism, enlightenment and divine glorification through Jesus Christ.
  7. Jesus is the very incarnation of the comfort Isaiah speaks of. He is the Word of God shining in a weary and dark world.
  8. Woe to Paul if he did not because he would be missing out on the love of Christ and, by extension, love for his fellow man.
  9. Jesus is about the business of remaking creation, one synagogue, one house, one city at a time.
