Gospel (121)
  1. God remains recklessly, wastefully, even foolishly generous with us. And through us, He is reaching out in the same way to all His human creatures.
  2. He received his father’s love, forgiveness, and celebration. But was he ever tempted to wander again?
  3. Jesus leaves us hanging. Does the tree improve? Does the owner of the vineyard even grant the vinedresser another year? Or does the tree finally get the ax?
  4. Jesus' course led from death into life, as He had promised. And He promises to lead us on that same course from death to life, from lament to joy.
  5. Lent begins this Sunday. Changes in the liturgical seasons offer preachers a good opportunity to address the Christian life from a higher elevation.
  6. After setting aside the written Word of God, the Word of God in flesh began to open His mouth to proclaim the spoken Word.
  7. He was invited like all the other guests. The hosts simply wanted Him to be part of the happy crowd. They got more than they asked for.
  8. Luke tells us John “preached good news to the people.” Really? “Good” news?
  9. While it is true Jesus was much more than a teacher, it is equally true that He was nothing less, which suggests a sermon on this text might explore Jesus’ teaching ministry; both then and now.
  10. The faithful who gather for worship have heard and believed this promise, and they too are saved. But they need to hear it again.
  11. If Jesus can rise from the dead, then a camel can go through the eye of needle, a rich man can find a place in the reign of God, you and I can be forgiven.
  12. Jesus looks into our hearts. He sees our hang-ups. He sees the temptations that keep us from following him. He sees our shortcomings, our sin, and our self-inflation. He does not turn His eyes away from us.
