Love of God (224)
  1. It all starts with God; and it all ends with God. He is the alpha and omega of giving and generosity.
  2. Who is God really? He is offensive, anarchic by the world’s standards, and far too gracious to people who don’t deserve his time or attention.
  3. Our God is a living God and he listens to our cries for help.
  4. From the beginning to the end of his letter, John really wants one thing: for us to be in Jesus.
  5. Psalm 81 is another description of the errors of God’s people throughout history.
  6. The reason that God’s commandments are not burdensome is that Jesus has fulfilled them.
  7. The love mentioned in 1 John 4:15-21 fourteen times (!) is a love that needs no apology but is determined at all times to sacrifice for the other.
  8. We can appreciate what we have received from God, we can receive it all as free gift, but only when we stop investing in fool's gold.
  9. To say that whoever loves has been born of God is also to say that those who are born of God are recipients of love. They do not have God because they love but because they are loved.
  10. Jesus is the anti-Cain: a giver, not a taker.
  11. Hope is found precisely while we’re dead.
  12. It can all seem so unfair. The wicked prosper and the ones who look to God seem to suffer the most.
