Pentecost (627)
  1. The Church’s suffering will bring with it a stronger faith in Christ and a bolder proclamation to a world in need of the life Christ alone can give.
  2. Through His Word, Jesus is fashioning and forming us to be His disciples who follow Him. It is important on this first Sunday after Pentecost that we remember to put worship (sabbath) first.
  3. We live under one Lord, Jesus. We rejoice that He is a good Lord who loves, forgives, and cares for us
  4. When Jesus leaves His disciples, He leaves them in a world that is more fully alive because of His gift of the Holy Spirit.
  5. The real point of the tongues phenomenon lies not with spiritual endowments but in its redemptive historical significance.
  6. “Can these bones live?” God asks Ezekiel, challenging the prophet and all who have ever looked into the face of death, and calling for a response.
  7. On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson discuss the gospel reading from John for the Sunday of Pentecost.
  8. Happy Pentecost reading as, by the Spirit’s power and promise, you prepare to preach Christ Jesus, the One to whom the Comforter bears witness!
  9. Jesus is found in places of suffering, both with the one suffering and with the one giving mercy, in the most mysterious of ways.
