Pentecost (627)
  1. God does not leave His people alone, to find their own way and stumble around in the dark. The Lord goes with them in His Word.
  2. The presence of traditions is not the problem. It is the way in which we experience them. And on this day, Jesus reminds us of His presence, so all of us experience His grace.
  3. It is the humble who will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Or, as Jesus said it elsewhere in Matthew: “The poor in spirit are blessed because theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
  4. But Jesus did not come to be a bystander to His own creation. No, He came to be a redeemer of His people and to rule over all as the Lord of creation.
  5. Joshua is not offering Israel a choice. Really, he is giving them an option which is a “non-option.”
  6. Christ Jesus, who is the light of the world, has turned on the lights, woken up sleeping sinners, raised them from death to life.
  7. We might think the course of our life is from our birth to our death. But Jesus opens our eyes to see that the direction of our existence is much larger than we can even imagine.
  8. The baptized, those rescued and redeemed by God’s grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone, are given an entirely new life to live, a completely new way to walk.
