The Law (131)
  1. Rather than calling me to pick burrs off my coat, God’s love strips me of my delusions and cuts to the heart of my disease.
  2. Paul is headed out, but there seems to be some contradictions concerning whether God wants him to go or not. How do we deal with these texts?
  3. What we notice less often is that this same fear wonders about both the efficacy of the Gospel and the Law.
  4. Love is the sum of the law. Love God with all your heart, spirit, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. That means that if love can't be done when it needs to be done then get rid of the law, because it's not lawful.
  5. Hurricane Florence, or any natural disaster, can serve as a painful reminder of our own mortality, the futility of human ingenuity and strength.
  6. My biggest criticism of Peterson’s mantra is that it seems to be exclusively a message of Law in a world in desperate need of grace.
  7. The early church battles legalism as the Gentiles are brought in. A council is formed and Peter takes a stand.

  9. The Law gets a bad rap. There is certainly a negative component to the Law. The work of the Law is very different than the work of the Gospel.

  11. Following him will also mean keeping our eyes locked on him so unswervingly that we don’t have the time or energy to be standing on tiptoes, peeping over fences into other people’s troubles and struggles.
  12. God’s Law is a death sentence for us sinners. There is no winning beneath the Law of God.
