1. This is what Christian catechesis does; it turns the knobs of the Scriptures and throws the doors of God’s word wide open to tell us the story of salvation.
  2. The heavens are neither geocentric, nor even heliocentric, but Christocentric. It is the cross and the crucified and risen Jesus who has the whole world, and each of us, in his nail scarred hands.
  3. For Bonhoeffer, Christ crucified, and the cross of the Christian life were not of peripheral importance, but foundational.
  4. This story points us from our unlikely heroes to the even more unlikely, and joyous, good news that Jesus’ birth for us was just as unlikely and unexpected.
  5. All Saints’ Day is a war story. And in Christ crucified and risen, it’s also a victory story.
